Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu stressed on the need for gender sensitive policies and programmes.
While releasing a book ‘Gender Perspectives in Public Policy and Development’ authored by Dr Rajeev Bansal, Dr Basu Sood and Dr Prabhat Mittal here on Thursday, he said, “We must strengthen gender-sensitive policy frameworks and legislative environment should support gender-inclusive programming, budgeting foster partnerships, collaborations that amplify gender equality efforts, invest in data collection and research to inform gender-responsive decision-making.”

It is significant to unlock the full potential of gender equality, driving progress toward a more just, equitable and sustainable world for all, he added.
The Chief Minister appreciated the authors for their work and said that the Gender Perspectives domain should not only be restricted to academicians but the implementing departments should come forward to prioritize gender policy and development, recognizing the transformative potential of gender equality. Sukhu said that the publication brings together diverse perspectives and expertise to explore the critical intersections between gender policy and development.
The composition examines the ways in which gender shapes and is shaped by development policies and practices, highlighting the need for gender-sensitive approaches that address the complex realities of women’s and girls’ lives.
Through a range of contributions the book demonstrates the importance of integrating gender analysis into development frameworks, policies and programmes.
It showcases successful initiatives and strategies that have promoted gender equality and empowerment, while also discussing the challenges and limitations that remain.
